Graduate program salary and super
A competitive starting salary of $70,280 (plus 15.4% super) is just the beginning. Once you complete the program, you’ll secure a permanent position, and a pay rise!
Your salary will be $78,290 (plus 15.4% super) and as an APS4 officer within the ATO, you can earn up to $84,971 (plus 15.4% super).
Who can apply
You can apply for our Graduate Program if you are an Australian citizen and either:
- completed your university degree within the last 5 years (1 January 2020 to 31 December 2024)
- are in your final year of study.
Before you start our program, you'll need to provide evidence you have successfully completed your qualification (bachelor degree or higher). If your institution participates in MyEquals, you need to provide this using MyEquals.

Job rotations and training
During the program you will go through 2 rotations. This helps you discover where you want your career to take you. Rotations will be across business areas – these will help you to develop your knowledge and capabilities in a range of topics.
You will also experience a short client contact experience. This experience will demonstrate the diversity of the community the ATO serves and the vast range of topics we provide advice on. You may be assisting clients via the call centre, myGov or answering real-time, online queries through our online chat function.
You'll find out about your first business area rotation during your induction.
Our regular training exposes you to a range of both stream-specific and corporate topics. You will consolidate and apply your learnings via research tasks throughout the year. All your training will be delivered by qualified facilitators who are topic experts.
