Item 131 of Sch 3 of No 142 of 1999, effective 1 July 2000, contains the following transitional provision:

Agents licences continue as broker's licences

(1) An agents licence that was in force immediately before the commencement of this Schedule continues in force as a broker's licence as if it had been granted under the Customs Act 1901 (as amended by this Schedule) immediately after the commencement of this Schedule.

(2) This item does not prevent:

(a) the suspension or cancellation of such a licence; or

(b) the alteration or endorsement of such a licence; or

(c) the variation of an endorsement on such a licence.

SECTION 183CJA   LICENCE CHARGES

Grant of licence

183CJA(1)    
A customs broker licence charge is payable in respect of the grant of a broker ' s licence by the person seeking the grant.

183CJA(2)    
A person liable to pay a customs broker licence charge in respect of the grant of a broker ' s licence must pay the charge before the end of the day the licence comes into force.

Renewal of licence

183CJA(3)    
A customs broker licence charge is payable in respect of the renewal of a broker ' s licence by the holder of the licence.

183CJA(4)    
The holder of a broker ' s licence liable to pay a customs broker licence charge in respect of the renewal of the broker ' s licence must pay the charge before the end of the day the renewal of the licence comes into force.
