SECTION 198   ASSIGNMENT OF MEMBERS TO LEAD LISTS  
Assignments

198(1)    
The President may assign a Deputy President or senior member to lead one or more lists.

198(2)    
Subject to subsection (4) , the President may vary or revoke an assignment under subsection (1) .

Acting assignments

198(3)    
The President may assign a Deputy President or senior member to act as the leader of a list:

(a)    during a vacancy in the position of leader of that list (whether or not an assignment has previously been made to the position); or

(b)    during any period, or during all periods, when the leader of that list:


(i) is absent from duty or from Australia; or

(ii) is, for any reason, unable to perform the duties of the position.
Note:

For rules that apply to a person acting as the leader of a list, see section 33A of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901 .



Consultation

198(4)    
The President must not make, vary or revoke an assignment under subsection (1) or (3) unless the President has consulted each jurisdictional area leader of each list affected by the making, variation or revocation.

Assignment not a legislative instrument

198(5)    
If an assignment under subsection (1) or (3) is made in writing, the assignment is not a legislative instrument.
