House of Representatives

A New Tax System (Luxury Car Tax Imposition-Customs) Amendment Bill 2008

Second Reading Speech

Mr Swan (Treasurer)

I move:

That this bill be now read a second time.

The bill operates to impose luxury car tax to the extent that it is a duty of customs.

As a consequence the bill increases the luxury car tax rate to 33 per cent to apply to luxury cars on and from 1 July 2008.

I commend the bill to the House.

Debate (on motion by Mr Turnbull) adjourned.
