Taxation statistics 2015–16

Taxation statistics 2015–16 provides a comprehensive statistical picture of the Australian tax system. It covers most labels from return forms and schedules. The statistics can be applied in research and analysis.

Last updated 23 September 2020

Taxation statistics 2015–16 presents an overview of the different taxes we administer. These statistics look at the tax returns and related schedules for the 2015–16 income year for individuals, companies, superannuation (super) funds, partnerships and trusts. We also include other information provided to us, such as goods and services tax (GST) and activity statements, relating to the 2016–17 financial year.

Each year we aim to improve Taxation statistics. Improvements this year include:

  • the addition of new infographics, which provide a quick snapshot of some of our key statistics relating to individuals for each state and territory as well as Australia-wide
  • the inclusion of 100 People statistics as part of the publication
  • new individuals detailed tables data, showing distribution of taxable income within each postcode (table 6C) as well as income information for occupations at the state or territory level (table 15)
  • new sets of industry benchmarks that combine together data for individuals, companies, partnerships and trusts into the one set of ratios.

Taxation statistics is an annual publication and our statistics for 2015–16 were released in April 2018. We welcome your feedback on the way we present this information and what we include. You can email us at taxstats@ato.gov.au.
