eInvoicing – Onboarding your trading partners

Last updated 25 September 2023

Since Australia adopted the Peppol framework as the common eInvoicing standard in 2019, more and more businesses and their trading partners are switching to eInvoicing.

We recently interviewed Daniel Whittle, Digital Manager at BOC GasExternal Link, about their adoption experience. In this interview, Daniel spoke about how BOC started by piloting eInvoicing with a select group of customers. They quickly realised eInvoicing was an attractive option and saw several benefits. In particular, BOC's finance team were very excited about the significant improvements to cashflow.

'We immediately saw a reduction in payment times from our customers ultimately because we made it easier for our customers who were using eInvoicing to process those invoices,' said Daniel.

Building on this initial success BOC have now made eInvoicing widely available to all their customers and have seen an ever-growing number of businesses make the switch.

The more customers and suppliers that use eInvoicing, the quicker it is to realise the benefits.

'[We're] really looking to get more businesses large and small onto eInvoicing to build a critical mass,' said Daniel.

BOC's experience illustrates how eInvoicing makes doing business easier. That's because a one-off connection to the Peppol network allows you to connect with everyone on the same network, regardless of which software or system they use.

'There's one implementation, and that one implementation or that one activation is for all suppliers or all customers.'

To activate your trading network, follow our guide to onboarding your trading partners to eInvoicing. If you're not enabled yet, check to see if your business accounting software is eInvoicing readyExternal Link, then follow your provider's instructions to register and connect to the network.
