Last updated 13 November 2024

About the program

Get a big head-start on your future with our University Paid Internship Program (UPIP). At the ATO, you’ll have endless career opportunities far beyond tax and superannuation. Whether you're passionate about cyber security, fraud protection, data analytics, marketing or more, we've got something for you. Join us, and make big things happen.

UPIP, formerly known as the University Partnership Employment Program (UPEP), gives you hands-on, paid work experience aligned with what you're studying at university. Dive into challenging work while enjoying a casual position with flexible hours.

Do work that matters and helps to:

  • combat crime and fraud
  • administer community support programs
  • protect sensitive data.

During the program, you'll explore various career opportunities at the ATO. You can also apply for ongoing positions like our Graduate Program. The decision is yours. Whichever path you take, there are endless possibilities.

What we offer

This program gives you:

  • paid work experience in your field of study on a casual contract
  • a competitive APS 2 casual pay rate of $40 per hour
  • a flexible placement to help balance work and university studies
  • professional development and networking opportunities
  • a supportive team environment and dedicated Career Development Manager
  • a potential pathway to the Graduate Program.

Why choose us

UPIP is the new and improved version of UPEP. We've revamped the program and broadened eligibility. Plus, there's more opportunities to join throughout the year.

It’s an incredible opportunity for you to earn while you learn with a paid internship, in your field of study.

We recognise the value that university students bring to our team. That's why we're ready to help you develop your potential and grow your career.

Don’t just take our word for it, hear from our former UPEP participants.
