We are authorised by the Taxation Administration Act 1953 to ask you to provide a tax file number (TFN). We use TFNs to identify entities in our records. It is not an offence not to provide a TFN, but if you don't provide a TFN there may be a delay processing the form.
We are also authorised by the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax Assessment Act 1987 to ask for other information. We need this information to help us to administer tax laws. If you don't provide the required information, there could be a delay processing the form.
We also collect personal information of the person who signs the form. This information will allow us to check that you have the authority to complete the Register for PRRT form and to contact you if we need more information.
Where authorised by law, we may give information to other government departments and agencies, including:
- Law Enforcement Agencies such as State and Federal Police
- the Australian Bureau of Statistics
- the Reserve Bank of Australia.
We may also provide entity information to treaty partners overseas under international tax agreements.
