We have adopted the Law Council of Australia’s Gender Equitable Briefing Policy.

The policy aims to increase the number of women briefed in the legal profession where:

  • women barristers aren't briefed
  • women barristers are infrequently briefed
  • the pool of women briefed is small.

The policy will help achieve cultural change in the legal profession, and provides a major step towards achieving gender equitable briefing practices.

The 2020 policy targets are for women to:

  • be briefed in at least 30% of all briefs
  • receive at least 30% of the value of all briefs.

We strive to exceed the targets set by the policy and are currently on track to achieve them. As at April 2020, women are briefed in at least 33% of all our briefs. They are also receiving at least 32% of the value of all our briefs. While this is a good start, we recognise we need to do more to increase the number of women briefed in the legal profession, and this remains our current focus.

Women account for over half of our workforce. By adopting such polices we will continue to build and develop measures to support women in the workplace.
