Summary of key topics discussed at the Cyber Security Stakeholder Group meeting 20 October 2022.

Last updated 28 February 2023

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand have developed a wide range of cyber security guidance for their members including baseline and reporting requirements as well as a self-assessment checklist.

ATO

The ATO continues to see a high level of email and SMS ATO Impersonation scam reports with fake 'myGov' login phishing sites being the top reported scam.

An emerging trend is a large number of impersonation and fraudulent profiles present on social media platforms.

The ATO has responded to the fake social media profiles by launching a series of educational social media posts via Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

The group also received an update on e-Invoicing which can reduce the risk of businesses falling victim to 'business email compromise'.

Australian Cyber Security Centre

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has worked closely with the Australian Federal Police, State Police and Private Industry to identify customers most at risk in the Optus Breach as part of Operation Guardian.

ACSC continues to encourage the use of their 24/7 hotline for cyber threat incidents at 1300 CYBER1 (1300 292 371). ACSC has helpful guides and advice on staying secure available on their website, www.cyber.gov.au
