It’s free to apply and directors must do the application themselves to verify their identity.
To apply online, directors must have at least a Standard identity strength myGovID. If they have a Strong myGovIDExternal Link it will streamline the application process as they only need to provide their TFN or residential address, as held by the ATO, at the 'proof of record ownership' step.
