Self-help service available for not-for-profits

Non-charitable NFPs may submit their NFP self-review return by phone, using our self-help service.

Last updated 8 October 2024

You can lodge your not-for-profit (NFP) self-review return using our self-help phone service on 13 72 26. This service is available to lodge your return for the 2023-24 transitional year.

If your NFP has all the required information and has prepared the answers to the NFP self-review return questions, lodging your return using the self-help phone service typically takes around 10 minutes. The self-help phone service is an automated service where you select options using a phone keypad.

To successfully lodge the return using this self-help service:

  • first review the list of self-review return questions at NFP self-review guide
  • prepare your responses to each question and have these with you when you call. You will need to refer to your governing documents to answer some of the questions
  • phone the self-help service on 13 72 26 and select the option for the NFP self-review return lodgment
  • enter the organisation's ABN and a reference number listed on any letter we have posted to your organisation, such as Your annual self-review reporting obligation or the Lodge your NFP self-review return notice:
    • the ABN will be listed as 'Client ID'
    • the reference number will be listed as 'Our reference'
  • follow the prompts to record your responses and submit the NFP self-review return questions.

Don't delay, lodge as soon as your organisation is ready. If you need more time you have up to 31 March 2025 to lodge, as part of our transitional support.

More ways to lodge

The NFP self-review return can be lodged using ATO online services. To access Online services for business, you need to set up myGovID and (Relationship Authorisation Manager) RAM.

Once you set-up your myGovID and link it to your NFP in RAM, you can lodge the NFP self-review return using Online services for business. NFPs that already report for GST or PAYG Withholding should lodge using Online services for business for an improved experience.

If you have engaged a registered tax agent, they can lodge the annual NFP self-review return on your behalf.
