File transfer test facility
The file transfer test facility allows users to test the structure of their XML schema using non-production (dummy) data. This facility checks the format compatibility of the report and generates a validation report which confirms the data is in a valid format and details any errors found.
This facility ensures that the report’s structure is suitable for submission via ATO online services, including Online services for business or Online services for non-residentsExternal Link for overseas platforms.
Before accessing the file transfer test facility, users will need to complete the registration formExternal Link.
Once registered, the test facility can be accessed via:

File transfer via ATO Online services
The File transfer facility in ATO online services is a secure portal in which an EDP or their intermediary can test a completed report, including real client data. Files submitted for testing using file transfer will be sent to the ATO and validated, but not lodged. The platform will receive a validation report detailing any errors found.
To access file transfer, EDP operators or their representatives (such as software providers or a parent company acting on behalf of an EDP) will need to use:
- Online services for business if the entity holds an ABN, or
- Online services for non-residentsExternal Link for overseas entities without an ABN.
