2022–23 R&D transparency report to publish in September

Learn what data we’ll include in our next tax incentive transparency report and if there’s anything you need to do.

Published 6 March 2025

We're giving businesses an early heads up – we’re publishing our next Research and Development tax incentive transparency report in September.

This report will cover R&D claims made in 2022–23, as well as the 2021–22 claims data that wasn’t included in last year’s report (where the income year began on or after 1 July 2021).

By providing transparency of how much R&D entities are reporting in R&D expenditure, the report aims to improve public accountability and voluntary compliance. We published our first R&D transparency report with data from 2021–22 in October 2024.

Do I need to do anything before it’s released?

There’s nothing you need to do if you're satisfied your previously submitted claim information is correct.

To confirm if your data will be in the 2022–23 report, contact your tax agent. We recently sent correspondence to all registered tax agents of R&D entities who’ll have data in there (and directly to entities not represented by an agent).

If you’re concerned there’s an error in your previously submitted claim information, we encourage you to review it.

What the report covers

Like last year, the report will be made up of 2 parts: the report of data published on data.gov.au and an analysis of the data published on our website. We’ll publish the following data from tax returns and R&DTI applications:

  • the name of the company claiming the R&D tax incentive
  • the company’s Australian business number (ABN) or Australian company number (ACN)
  • the total amount the company claimed on R&D.

If your R&D data is going to be included in this year’s report, you may wish to familiarise yourself with the detailed information on R&D tax incentive transparency reports, including last year’s report.
