It’s important to lodge and pay in full and on time to avoid penalties, interest charges and firmer action.
Your business activity statement (BAS) for quarter 1 BAS is generally due on 28 October, but you may receive an extra:
- 4 weeks if you lodge through a registered tax or BAS agent
- 2 weeks if you lodge online.
The cost of managing your tax affairs is tax deductible, and a registered agent’sExternal Link help will allow you to focus on running your business.
If you prefer to lodge yourself, lodging online also means you:
- may get a faster refund
- will receive email reminders to help you avoid mistakes before you lodge (for example, if you enter an amount that’s higher or lower compared to your previous BAS, you may receive a reminder to check if it’s correct)
- will receive a reminder 21 days before your BAS is due, to help you keep track of your due dates.
Make sure your email address is correct so you receive our emails.
You can lodge online through:
- Online services for individuals and sole traders
- Online services for business, or
- SBR-enabled software.

If you already lodged your BAS online, but still receive a paper form for your BAS, consider updating your ATO communication preferences from ‘paper’ to ‘online’.
You’ll receive faster communication from us, save paper and reduce the time it takes to file your documents.
