Our focus areas

Read about the risky business behaviours attracting our attention and learn how to get it right.

Published 10 December 2024

We've just launched our focus areas for small business. It outlines our current focus areas to help you get it right from the start and stay on track.

Behind every small business are busy people who are working hard to build and run their business. Small business is serious business, and we want to help you get it right. We're doing this by being transparent on the key focus areas that attract our attention.

We are detecting, treating, and addressing concerning behaviours to support all businesses so they can have an equal chance of success.

The 3 areas that we’re focused on right now are:

  • business income is not personal income
  • deductions and concessions
  • operating outside the system.

We’ll continue to review and publish new focus areas quarterly. Now is the time to fix these issues and get things right, so you can spend more time on your business.

If you’re struggling financially, a registered tax professional can help you find the best strategies to get your business back on track.
