If you have issued more exploration credits than the maximum allowable amount for the income year, you are liable for excess exploration credit tax for that year. Your shareholders will not be impacted.
Completing the EDI Credit tax return form
Section A: Entity details
- Complete all necessary fields.
Section B: Excess exploration credit tax details
- Write at item 4 the amount of exploration credits you issued for the income year.
- Write at item 5 the maximum amount of exploration credits you were able to issue for the income year as determined at the time of lodging this return.
- Write at item 6 the amount of the excess exploration credit tax for the income year. (You calculate the amount of excess exploration credit tax by subtracting item 5 from item 4).
Section C: Declaration
- Complete all necessary fields.
How to lodge your EDI Credit tax return form
Make a copy of the form for your own records. You can lodge it:
- Online, by:
- Logging in to Online services for business,
- Select Communication from the top menu, then Secure mail
- Select New message
- From the Topic drop down list select View more topics
- Then from the Other topics drop down list select Exploration incentives, then select JMEI lodgment from the Subject list
- Attach your form, and complete any mandatory fields
- Complete the declaration then Send.
