Australian Immunisation Register and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2017

An Act to amend the law relating to immunisation and family assistance, and for related purposes

[Assented to 16 August 2017]

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1   Short title

This Act is the Australian Immunisation Register and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2017.

2   Commencement

 

(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

1. The whole of this Act

The day after this Act receives the Royal Assent.

3   Schedules

Legislation that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1   Australian Immunisation Register amendments

Australian Immunisation Register Act 2015

1   Paragraph 9(b)

Omit "about each of those vaccinations", substitute "provided by a recognised vaccination provider about each relevant vaccination".

2   Paragraph 9(c)

After "general practitioner", insert ", a paediatrician, a public health physician, an infectious diseases physician or a clinical immunologist".

3   Subparagraph 9(d)(iii)

After "general practitioner", insert ", paediatrician, public health physician, infectious diseases physician or clinical immunologist".

4   Application provisions

(1) The amendment made by item 1 applies in relation to relevant vaccinations that take place on or after the commencement of that item.

(2) The amendments made by items 2 and 3 apply in relation to assessments made on or after the commencement of those items.

Schedule 2   Family assistance amendments

A New Tax System (Family Assistance) Act 1999

1   Paragraphs 6(3)(a) and (b)

After "general practitioner", insert ", a paediatrician, a public health physician, an infectious diseases physician or a clinical immunologist".

2   Application provision

The amendment made by this Schedule applies in relation to certifications given on or after the commencement of this item.
