The Evergreen Program runs for 12 months and offers a unique opportunity to work and learn with a close cohort of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Benefits of the program:

  • A competitive starting salary of $61,749 plus 15.4% super. After successfully completing the program, you'll progress to a role at the next level with a salary of $70,280 plus 15.4% super.

Roles

Your 2 work rotations may include one or more of the following work types:

Client engagement

In this role, you'll undertake case work in different market segments.

Your tasks may include:

  • ensuring taxpayers are meeting their obligations and complying with tax legislation, regulations and standards
  • getting information and providing advice to clients
  • conducting field, phone and desk audits
  • reviewing and assessing tax returns to determine compliance
  • interpreting taxation legislation and procedures
  • developing and implementing compliance improvement strategies.

Administration officer

In this role, you'll support and help organise our business areas.

Your tasks may include:

  • managing and maintaining records and information
  • liaising and communicating with our stakeholders
  • compiling and preparing documents, reports and correspondence
  • general reporting and data management.

Client experience officer

In this role, you'll undertake a range of customer service activities in an ATO call centre. This could be in different areas of the organisation.

Your tasks may include:

  • helping the community resolve a range of customer enquiries
  • providing technical advice on legislative, policy and procedures
  • verifying and updating data
  • recording interactions in our business information systems.

Digital officer

In this role you'll assist an experienced officer in undertaking a range of tasks including:

  • designing, implementing and supporting workable solutions to meet business requirements
  • using analysis and design techniques to solve business problems using information technology
  • preparing, managing and reviewing testing documentation, ensuring relevant strategies and plans follow best practice and management of risks are considered
  • helping protect the ATO from cyber threats by supporting and improving cyber security across our organisation.

Training and support

In the Evergreen Program you'll receive training and support to prepare you for an ongoing career with us.

You'll have a career development manager who will guide you in your professional development.

For each work rotation, you'll also have a different team leader who will guide and support you in your specific work roles including:

Activities

As part of the program, you'll participate in different training activities, including:

  • group discussions
  • training workshops
  • research projects
  • case studies analysis.

Training

We'll train you and provide you with professional development opportunities to help you work in the ATO and the public service environment.

You'll also receive technical training. The training topics will be relevant to your rotation placement in the program. You'll complete a formal qualification as part of the program.

Accreditation

You'll be able to complete a formal qualification as part of the program.

Who can apply

To apply for the ATO Evergreen Program, you must provide written evidence that you:

  • are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • are accepted in your community as being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander
  • are an Australian citizen.

You'll be asked to provide confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait heritage (or both) within 6 weeks of applications closing.
