Economists in our Revenue Performance and Tax Gap teams apply economic and statistical research methods to produce tailored performance measures for the ATO’s programs that are fit-for-purpose, principled and well-founded.
In our Tax Gap team, you'll work with peers and business partners to assess the performance of the tax and super systems in Australia. You'll develop, maintain, and improve estimation and forecasting models for quantifying the amounts of shortfall in the tax system relative to the theoretical tax and contributions that taxpayers and employers should report and pay if they were fully compliant under existing law. In the process, you'll gain knowledge and produce meaningful and credible insights into the behavioural and risk drivers of non-compliance at systemic and cohort levels, contributing to evidence-based planning and investment decisions within the ATO.
In our Revenue Performance team, you'll work with peers and business partners to understand ATO interactions with clients, analyse financial and socioeconomic data, and estimate the impact that ATO compliance interventions have on changing the compliance behaviour of taxpayers and employers. You'll develop, maintain, and improve models for quantifying and forecasting the revenue effects of ATO interventions taxpayer compliance with their registration, lodgment, reporting and payment obligations, contributing to evidence-based planning and investment decisions within the ATO.
