Lawyers

As a Lawyer you'll:

  • be responsible for the effective management of legal cases.
  • play a leading role in providing legal advice and dispute resolution services for the ATO.
  • analyse, interpret and apply legislation, policies, practices and precedents to resolve complex legal issues, escalating where appropriate.
  • apply extensive knowledge and experience in the provision of legal advice to senior leadership.
  • identify, evaluate and manage the resolution of complex and sensitive issues and take ownership for actions taken.

Senior lawyers may also lead a small operations team and improve legally sound decision making by developing staff capability and mentoring less experienced staff.

Prosecutions Officer

As a Prosecutions Officer you’ll:

  • manage, prosecute or provide technical support within a small operational team.
  • play an important role in shaping the prosecutions' direction by establishing strategic partnerships and applying a tactical focus to prosecutions compliance activities.
  • contribute to complex and sensitive projects or work programs that may have strategic, political or operational significance.
  • be accountable for making decisions in relation to prosecution cases and deliver outcomes in accordance with the national prosecution plan.

Senior Officers may also provide guidance, direction, and advice to other prosecutors in managing their cases and support the team in setting priorities, managing workflows, and allocating resources. You’ll assist in developing team strategies and practices and evaluating business outcomes.

Litigators

As a Litigator, you’ll:

  • undertake complex litigation and dispute resolution cases, conduct research, prepare court documents and correspondence, and advocate as required.
  • liaise with legal stakeholders, manage timeframes, and may appear in legal proceedings and hearings on tax technical, debt recovery and administrative law matters.
  • work autonomously, and as part of a team, to assist with a range of litigation and legal advice cases, as well as assist senior litigators on more complex matters.

Senior Litigators

As a Senior Litigator you may also lead multiple complex litigation and dispute resolution cases, undertake research, prepare highly complex court documents and correspondence, and advocate as required. You may also manage relationships with stakeholders and appear in complex legal proceedings and hearings on tax technical, debt recovery and administrative law matters.

You'll contribute to precedential litigation matters that help to shape the interpretation of Australia's tax laws to drive improvement of litigation practices and policy, technology, and reporting changes.
